The National Assembly has officially designated Mehmood Khan Achakzai as the Leader of the Opposition, a pivotal parliamentary position formally recognised through a notification issued by the legislative body’s secretariat on Friday.
The appointment received the final endorsement from National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, with the official declaration being made under Rule 39 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly, 2007.
Speaker Sadiq presented the formal notification solidifying Mr Achakzai’s new role to a high-level delegation of opposition members at the National Assembly.
The visiting delegation comprised several prominent Members of the National Assembly, including Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Junaid Akbar, Sardar Latif Khosa, and Jamal Ehsan Khan.
Also in attendance from the opposition were Shehram Khan, Shandana Gulzar, Makhdoom M. Zain Qureshi, Ali Asghar Khan, Malik Anwar Taj, and Yousaf Khan.
Representing the government at the event were Federal Minister for Law and Justice, Azam Nazeer Tarar, alongside Romina Khurshid Alam, the Coordinator to the Prime Minister on Climate Change.
