Minister of State for Interior appeals judiciary not to grant bail to accused arrested in heinous crimes

Islamabad, December 19, 2018 (PPI-OT): Minister of State for Interior Shehryar Khan Afridi has appealed to judiciary not to grant bail to the accused arrested in heinous crimes like drug business and land grabbing so as the law enforcement agencies could rid the country of mafia gangs. Addressing the passing out cadets of 17 the Batch of Lower Course and 32nd Batch of Basic Recruit Course here on Wednesday, the Minister said that the federal government is introducing model policing in the federal capital and the passing out cadets would prove to be the frontline soldiers of this model.

He said the young cadets would be the flag bearers of model policing in the federal capital. “From now on, the young cadets would be visible on Islamabad Roads to provide people friendly policing. No police official would be allowed to humiliate the honourable citizens of Pakistan. With the election of PTI Chairman Imran Khan as Prime Minister of Pakistan, the black traditions of colonial era are over. Police is here to serve the masses now,” he added.

The minister urged the Islamabad Police to continue the drive against the drug peddlers in the capital without being buckled under any pressure. Among the passed out recruits, 23 young cadets belong to the families of martyred police officials. The Minister of State for Interior said that our security agencies have rendered unprecedented sacrifices in the war on terror and only Islamabad Police has the honor of offering 41 martyrs from Capital Police. He said Islamabad Police has played its due role in curbing the terrorism and crime from the capital.

He added that the performance of Islamabad Police in the recent drive against the land grabbers was exemplary. Minister of State stressed that we will recover every inch of state land from the land mafia. He said the anti-encroachment drive would continue with full vigour till recovery of all encroached land. He also added that operation against drug peddlers is in full swing and nobody, however influential one is, will not be spared.

Detailing the progress on the operation against the drug mafia, the minister said that since the last two months, 354 cases have been lodged in different Police Stations of Islamabad while 385 drug peddlers have also been arrested. Shehryar Afridi remarked that the Government is resolved to enhance the capacity of Islamabad police and geared its efforts towards making Islamabad police a role model for other Provinces. He added that Prime Minister Imran Khan had announced a special package for Islamabad Police. He said all requests submitted by Islamabad IGP have been approved pending since past eleven years.

He said that from Sehat Cards to Housing facilities, all basic needs of Islamabad Police officials would be provided. In this connection, process of modifications in Islamabad Police Act is underway in order to make the Act in line with the modern challenges. MOS for Interior stated that while handing over the responsibility of Ministry of Interior, Prime Minister had directed him not to take any kind of pressure from any quarter. He warned that stringent action would be taken against the mischievous elements who want to destabilize the country.
