Minister Shaheena urges equal rights for women, transgenders

Provincial Minister for Women Development Shaheena Sher Ali today called for equal human rights for all individuals, including women and transgender people, in line with Islamic teachings.

Speaking to the media, she emphasized the importance of raising voices for one’s rights. Shaheena reaffirmed that under President Asif Ali Zardari’s leadership, no wrongful treatment was allowed against women from opposition parties.

She said that politics is challenging, recalling the hardships endured by Shaheed Benazir Bhutto in jail.

The minister also underlined the significance of a two-day conference on human rights and sustainable peace, which was organized in partnership with USAID, Shah Abdul Latif University, and the Women’s Development Department.

She stressed the need for peaceful environments where all individuals can enjoy their rights, advocating for the holding of similar seminars in schools and colleges. Shaheena assured that her department would act swiftly to address any incidents of abuse against women and girls, ensuring their rights are protected.
