On the directive of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, a major project for breeding the world’s largest bird, the ostrich, has been launched at Lahore Safari Park for the promotion of wildlife.
The modern breeding center also includes a dedicated hatchery where the eggs are transported to the hatchery via an electric bus.
Upon arrival at the hatchery, the ostrich eggs are carefully sprayed and cleaned to disinfect them. After this process, data based on their weight and other important information is carefully recorded and compiled.
Officials say that this pilot program is the first step towards the larger goal of making Punjab self-sufficient in ostrich production. After being successfully raised at Lahore Safari Park, these birds will be distributed to other zoos and parks across the province.
