Pakistan has expressed serious concerns about the growing hostilities in Ukraine and called for an immediate ceasefire and the resumption of peace talks. This appeal was made by Pakistan’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Usman Jadoon, during a UN Security Council meeting focused on the Ukraine crisis.
Ambassador Jadoon expressed regret over the absence of tangible progress toward peace, noting that the ongoing hostilities are worsening the humanitarian situation and further destroying civilian infrastructure.
He emphasized the need for all involved parties to comply with their international legal obligations, particularly those related to humanitarian law, to protect civilians and essential facilities.
The ambassador stressed the critical need to alter the current dangerous path, asserting that lasting peace can only be achieved through negotiations and diplomatic channels, not through military dominance.
He advocated for confidence-building measures between the warring parties and the establishment of a conducive environment for genuine dialogue. In this context, he reiterated Pakistan’s call for an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire, along with the resumption of negotiations, facilitated by the United States.
Ambassador Jadoon affirmed that a mutually acceptable and peaceful settlement aligned with the principles of the UN Charter and the legitimate security interests of all stakeholders is the only path to a lasting resolution of the conflict.
Concluding his speech, the Deputy Permanent Representative reaffirmed Pakistan’s steadfast commitment to supporting all efforts to achieve a just, comprehensive, sustainable, and peaceful resolution of the ongoing conflict.
