Pakistan pays tribute to the sacrifices of UN ‘Blue Helmets’ for world peace

Pakistan today paid tribute to the significant contributions and ultimate sacrifices made by UN peacekeepers, known as ‘Blue Helmets’, on the occasion of the International Day of UN Peacekeepers.

In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) highlighted Pakistan”s longstanding association with the UN peacekeeping initiatives, which spans over six decades. Since 1960, more than 237,000 Pakistani peacekeepers have participated in UN missions across the globe. Tragically, 183 Pakistani personnel have lost their lives while serving under the UN flag, marking their ultimate commitment to global peace efforts.

Currently, Pakistani peacekeepers are stationed in some of the most perilous regions, including the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO), South Sudan (UNMISS), and the Central African Republic (MINUSCA). These peacekeepers are engaged in a variety of complex operations, ranging from active military activities to addressing climate-induced challenges.

The ISPR reiterated Pakistan”s unwavering dedication to the principles and goals of UN Peacekeeping missions. This commitment is demonstrated through significant investment in peace, encompassing human resources, advanced training infrastructures, and comprehensive capacity enhancement measures.

The statement further emphasised Pakistan”s resolve to stand in solidarity with the United Nations, urging the international community to recognise that lasting peace is not inherently assured but demands ongoing, collective effort and investment.

Pakistan remains steadfast in its foundational commitment to serving as a leader for worldwide stability, security, and humanitarian aid under the auspices of the United Nations.
