Pakistan President Urges Greater Awareness and Support on International Day Against Breast Cancer

Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari has called for enhanced efforts to raise awareness and support for breast cancer patients, as the country observes the International Day Against Breast Cancer today. Highlighting the alarming prevalence of the disease, he emphasized the critical need for early detection, better treatment access, and widespread education on breast cancer.

According to Press Information Department, President Zardari noted that breast cancer remains the most diagnosed cancer and a leading cause of death among women, particularly in low and middle-income countries. In Pakistan, one in every nine women is at risk, with late diagnosis significantly contributing to the high mortality rate.

The theme for this year’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, “No One Should Face Breast Cancer Alone,” serves as a reminder of the importance of community support for those battling the disease. The President urged policymakers to prioritize disease control initiatives, including screening programs, mammographic services, and patient care, to combat the growing incidence.

President Zardari also stressed the vital role of the media in educating the public, urging print, electronic, and social media to spread awareness about breast cancer and encourage early diagnosis. He expressed hope that collective efforts would help reduce breast cancer mortality and improve the overall health of the nation’s women.
