Islamabad, June 09, 2023 (PPI-OT): These remarks were made by Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistani and Human Resource Development in the “Tenth Global Meeting of Chairs and Secretariats of Inter-State Consultation Mechanisms on Migration (GRCP 10).” Pakistan’s Tripartite Delegation was led by Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistani and Human Resource Development Mr. Sajid Hussain Turi. A Gilbert F. Hungbu Director General ILO, Wishaq Joint Secretary OP and HRD and Zulfiqar Ahmad Secretary Workers Welfare Fund were also among the participants. Pakistan appreciate the support provided by the ILO Office Islamabad within its limited resources to the flood hit people of Sindh and Baluchistan provinces. Government of Pakistan expects such assistance in future as well. It’s pertinent to mention here that ILO Country’s office is also developing a World of Work Crisis Response Strategy.

It’ll provide essential guidance to all stakeholders, both at the federal and provincial levels, on how to effectively respond to crises with a focus on preserving jobs and employment. The launching of ‘Decent Work Country Program 2023-2027’, was not possible without the assistance of the ILO. It is our hope that the priorities outlined in the program will be jointly addressed by the three constituents, with the technical support of the ILO. “Pakistan also acknowledges ILO’s support for developing employment as well as labour policies for Pakistan. Job creation is a high priority for us and we would like to invite programmatic and project-based support in job creation programmes,” Turi expressed. Pakistan is eager to participate as one of the pathfinder countries for the U.N. Secretary-General’s initiative on the global accelerator on jobs and social protection. Pakistan is in the process of establishing an inter-ministerial committee on just transition and aims to collaborate with international partners to receive their support in this endeavour.
