Pakistan’s ICCBS, Nigerian Uiversity Forge Scientific Collaboration

The International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) at the University of Karachi and the University of Ilorin in Nigeria have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to expand cooperation in academic and scientific research, with a focus on advancing collaborative studies and capacity building.

The agreement was signed during a virtual ceremony by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Raza Shah, Director of ICCBS, University of Karachi, and Mansur Adeleke Alfanla, Registrar of the University of Ilorin, representing their respective institutions, an ICCBS spokesperson said.

Under the agreement, the two institutions will jointly undertake research projects, promote teaching and scientific activities, exchange technical expertise, and develop skills in areas of mutual interest. The partnership also envisages collaboration on research proposals and the sharing of academic knowledge to strengthen scientific cooperation.

The MoU further provides opportunities for postgraduate students, early-career researchers, laboratory technicians, research assistants, research officers, and other academic and technical personnel to receive training and professional development through mutually agreed collaborative programmes.

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Raza Shah said the partnership was designed to enhance collaborative research in chemical, biological, and pharmaceutical sciences, including preclinical, translational, and clinical research. He added that the agreement would facilitate shared access to research infrastructure, laboratory equipment, and other scientific resources, subject to the availability of financial and institutional support.

He said the collaboration was expected to strengthen research capabilities, encourage innovation, and advance scientific knowledge through joint academic initiatives.

Mansur Adeleke Alfanla said activities carried out under the MoU would be guided by the scientific objectives of both institutions, with a strong emphasis on postgraduate education, collaborative research, and the wider dissemination of scientific knowledge.
