PM calls for global unity for peace, collective security

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called upon the world to stand united in promoting peace, advancing sustainable development and strengthening collective security.

Addressing the Inter-parliamentary Speakers” Conference in Islamabad on Tuesday, he expressed the confidence that the nations can collectively build a world anchored in lasting peace and shared prosperity.

Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan has always advocated for peace through dialogue and diplomacy. We firmly believe that peace and security forms the foundation of sustainable national and regional development.

Addressing the Inter-parliamentary Speakers” Conference, the premier stated that the country’s armed forces displayed remarkable preparedness in the face of the May incursion. He noted that their decisive military action on land and in the air thwarted the enemy’s designs and showcased Pakistan’s determination to defend its territorial integrity at all costs.

Sharif emphasized that after securing a military victory, it is now imperative to “win peace through sincere and honest efforts.”

The Prime Minister also disclosed that Pakistan”s border posts were attacked last month, prompting a “firm and decisive” response that taught an “unforgettable lesson” to the aggressors. He identified militant groups operating from Afghanistan as a continued threat to regional peace.

He urged the Afghan administration to understand that lasting stability can only be achieved by reining in the TTP and other terrorist outfits operating on its soil. Sharif reiterated that a peaceful Afghanistan is the key to regional connectivity and prosperity, and that Pakistan has been striving hard for a peaceful neighborhood.

“We firmly believe that peace and security forms the foundation of sustainable national and regional development,” Sharif said, adding that Pakistan has always advocated for resolving issues through dialogue and diplomacy.

On the domestic front, the premier highlighted government reforms aimed at promoting inclusive growth, institutional strengthening, and the empowerment of youth and women. He noted active engagement with international financial institutions to foster fiscal reforms, climate resilience, and facilitate investment.

“Our efforts are guided by the conviction that no nation can prosperous in isolation and that our destinies are linked with each other very closely,” he remarked, underscoring Pakistan’s belief in global interaction and multilateralism.

In his remarks at the conference, Chairman Senate Yousaf Raza Gillani stressed that parliaments must serve as beacons of guidance and called for collective thought and commitment. He highlighted the importance of parliamentary diplomacy and stated that dialogue should act as a bridge to foster cooperation.

Alluding to the challenge of climate change, Gillani urged parliamentary leaders to shape a legislative agenda that recognizes its complexity and ensures national security remains rooted in equitable human development.
