Srinagar, February 06, 2019 (PPI-OT):In occupied Kashmir, a protest march organized by the Joint Resistance Leadership was held in Srinagar, today, to press for the release of all Kashmiri political prisoners languishing in different jails of India and the occupied territory.
A large number of Hurriyat leaders and activists, led by Muhammad Yasin Malik, assembled at Aabi Guzar in Srinagar and staged the demonstration against the continued detention of Kashmiri political prisoners. As the protesters tried to march towards Lal Chowk, Indian police took Muhammad Yasin Malik and other Hurriyat leaders and activists into custody and lodged them at Kothi Bagh police station. Before his arrest, Yasin Malik talking to the reporters urged the United Nations Human Rights Council and other human rights organisations to put pressure on India to release all political prisoners. The police also arrested Hurriyat leader Molvi Bashir Ahmed Irfani from his residence and shifted him to some unknown location.
The authorities suspended mobile services in Hyderpora and Nigeen areas of Srinagar in an attempt to prevent resistance leaders Syed Ali Gilani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq from addressing different functions in connection with Kashmir Solidarity Day.
A 13-year-old boy, Junaid Bilal, who along with his friend suffered injuries when a grenade they were fiddling with, went off in Pulwama five days back succumbed at a hospital in Srinagar, today. The grenade was deliberately left by Indian forces after a cordon and search operation in Drabgam area of the district on last Friday.
Hurriyat leader Mukhtar Ahmed Waza visited SMHS hospital in Srinagar and inquired about the health condition of a youth, Tawseef Ahmed Wani, who was subjected to ruthless torture by Indian troops at an army camp in Shadimarg area of Pulwama district.
Indian troops launched a cordon and search operation at Lolab in Kupwara district. All the exit points were sealed and house-to-house searches were conducted by the troops. A conference held in Qom city of Iran urged India and Pakistan to enter into dialogue to resolve the long-pending Kashmir dispute. The conference was held to express unity with the Kashmiris.
