Parents and locals continued their protest at Skardu airport for the second consecutive day on Saturday, denouncing Pakistan International Airlines’s (PIA) failure to deliver the body of a six-year-old boy.
A heavy police and Airport Security Force (ASF) personnel faced trouble to maintain law and order at the airport. The demonstrators demanded immediate arrangements to transport the child’s body to Skardu, as a PIA flight from Islamabad faced delays.
The outcry stemmed from an incident on Friday, where a PIA cargo flight allegedly overlooked transporting the deceased child’s body from Islamabad to Skardu while transporting the grieving family.
The six-year-old, Wajahat, had passed away in Rawalpindi earlier on Friday. The family had booked PIA cargo flight PK451 to shift the body to Skardu.
Upon arrival at Skardu airport, the family was informed by PIA staff that due to negligence on the part of PIA Islamabad, the child’s body could not be shipped on the designated flight.
Faced with this shocking revelation, the grieving family staged a protest, decrying the administration’s gross negligence and pleading for the immediate handover of their child’s body.
The incident underscores growing frustration over lapses in airline operations and highlights the anguish experienced by families in such circumstances
