LARKANA: Provincial Election Commissioner Aijaz Anwer Chauhan has said that code of conduct must be implemented as nobody is above the law and all should be equally treated so that no one raises any objection.

This he said while presiding over a high-level meeting held at Commissioner’s office here on Friday which was participated by commissioner, Larkana Division and all deputy commissioners and other relevant officers. Some of them took part through video links. He reviewed the arrangements so far made to hold free, fair and transparent local bodies elections which are to be held on 26th June.

He said the purpose of this meeting is to take coordinated efforts and to bring all on one page for holding free, transparent and fair elections so that this process of holding polls could be held smoothly.

He said meetings with the Sindh Chief Secretary are randomly held in this connection and he will request him to ensure availability of missing facilities and installation of CCTV cameras along with provision of required funds. He said IG Police will be directed to ensure availability of proper security and police personnel and Director General Rangers will also be asked to deploy their people adequately. He said ballot papers and other election material will be sent to divisional headquarters.

He said that clear cut instructions have been issued by the Chief Election Commissioner to ensure proper implementation of code of conduct. He said the transportation plan must also be reviewed and strengthened. He said training of election staff is underway and they have been directed to ensure that the result sheet must be given to every candidate. He said necessary instructions have also been issued to DROs and ROs to visit training centers.

He directed the divisional administration to stop the ongoing development schemes immediately in the areas where elections are due so that they could have no impact on elections and also directed the monitoring officers and requested media persons to submit a report and highlight respectively if any uplift works are going on anywhere. He said printing works will be completed by 15th June and thereafter ballot papers and other material will be dispatched. He said he will again come to review the facilities after 20th June.

Commissioner, Larkana Division, Ghanwar Ali Leghari said that arrangements for holding LB polls have been finalized but some missing facilities have been pointed out here today which will also be completed soon.

Muhammad Hajan Abbasi, Regional Election Commissioner, said that 90 per cent arrangements have been completed for the upcoming elections and the remaining will also be finalized. He said a WhatsApp Group has also been made so that coordinated efforts could be made and ensure team work.
