Punjab Extends Province-Wide Drone Ban for 30 Days

The Punjab government today extended the enforcement of Section 144 across the province for another 30 days, maintaining a ban on the use of outdoor drones as authorities seek to address security risks and safeguard public safety.

The Punjab Home Department said the decision was taken in light of prevailing security threats and concerns over maintaining law and order. Under the renewed restrictions, the operation of drones in open areas will remain prohibited throughout the province.

A spokesperson for the Home Department said the protection of public life, preservation of law and order, and security of property remained the government’s foremost priorities, adding that district administrations and police authorities across Punjab had been directed to ensure strict enforcement of the order.

However, the government has permitted the limited use of small drones during indoor events held in halls and marquees. Organizers of such events will be responsible for ensuring the safe and lawful operation of the devices.

The notification exempts intelligence agencies and law enforcement institutions from the restrictions, allowing them to use drones for official purposes.

The order was issued by the Punjab Home Secretary under Section 144(6) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898.
