Qaumi Awami Tehreek Protests Against Six Canal Projects

Qaumi Awami Tehreek, Thatta district, took out a rally from Mirpur Sakro to Thatta against the decision to construct six new canals in Punjab.

Participants raised slogans rejecting the canals’ plan, emphasizing their opposition to projects they believe threaten Sindh’s water resources.

The rally was led by party’s central leader Ashraf Palejo and Thatta district president Mumtaz Shaikh. The march received public support at various locations along the route.

Addressing the gathering, leaders expressed concerns that corporate farming and Green Pakistan initiatives were being used as a pretext to deprive Sindh of its water resources.

They accused former President Asif Ali Zardari of approving the canal projects and criticized the Pakistan Peoples Party and the Sindh government for what they described as misleading opposition to the plans.

Qaumi Awami Tehreek leaders cautioned that if Punjab did not reconsider its stance, the people of Sindh might be compelled to take measures such as blocking routes from Sindh to Punjab to protect their river and agricultural lands.
