Research, dialogue based legislation essential to address challenges: Asad Qaiser

Islamabad, September 09, 2020 (PPI-OT):Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser has said legislation based on research and dialogue is essential to address the challenges faced by the country. Addressing a dialogue on “Partnership for Protecting the Environment” in Islamabad today he invited researchers and academics to the standing committees of the Parliament for research purposes and their views are incorporated in legislation and policy making.

The event was organized by the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Climate Change. The Speaker said the country is facing immense challenges out of which the most glaring is climate change which we need to work as a nation to tackle it. He said that our researchers and educators are the best in the world and the world has acclaimed their potential and we need to work harder to bring our universities to the top of the world ranking. The Speaker stressed on the need to solve the problems facing the country through the parliament.

Speaking on the occasion, Chairperson Standing Committee on Climate Change Munaza Hassan said parliamentary committees could bridge the gap between the people and the institutions and play the role of a forum that could implement the views of the people. She said climate change is a very serious issue that is not only affecting the lives of our people, but could escalate in the future.
