Rural Growth Centers to be established in Ghorabari, Garho and Var under Poverty Reduction Strategy

Rural Growth Centers will be established in Ghorabari, Garho and Var under the Poverty Reduction Strategy by the Planning and Development Department, Government of Sindh. A key consultative meeting was held on Tuesday on a multi-billion rupee project, financially supported by the European Union, to establish crucial infrastructure including new drainage and water supply schemes for poverty alleviation in several rural areas of Thatta district.

Presiding over the meeting, Project Director Syed Jawad Muzaffar briefed the participants on the specific drainage scheme for Ghorabari and the water supply project for Garho. He also presented an outline of the proposed sewerage treatment plant and network and sought suggestions from the attendees.

Muzaffar said that the purpose of the rural development centers is to provide essential goods and services to nearby villages in a low-cost and effective manner.

He informed the attendees that the Sindh Cabinet had approved the Poverty Reduction Strategy on November 16, 2018, under which Rs 4,900 million were initially allocated for four districts: Thatta, Sujawal, Badin, and Tharparkar. This program will be completed with the support of the European Union.

Representatives from the district administration, local bodies, and social organizations attended the meeting. Additional Deputy Commissioner-I Ghulam Dastagir Shaikh, Town Chairman Ghorabari Muhammad Ramzan Panhwar, and Town Chairman Garho Haji Muhammad Siddique Khaskheli, among other officials, praised the department’s efforts, stating that the involvement of all parties is essential for sustainable development.

Director Planning and Development Ms. Sarah Amjad, Deputy Director Ms. Azima Nasir, and District Coordinator Dayal Das Rathore also participated and provided detailed information about the implementation of the development centers and related programs.
