A significant protest rally was organized today in Badin by the National People’s Movement, Sindhiyari Movement, and Sindhi Hari Movement, expressing strong opposition to the alleged exploitation of Sindh’s resources, particularly the transfer of water from the Indus River to the Jalalpur Canal, which they claim exacerbates the water shortage in the area.
Protesters gathered outside Badin Press Club, chanting slogans against government policies they deem unfair. They expressed serious concerns over the severe water crisis in the southern parts of Sindh, known as Lar, and demanded immediate intervention from the Sindh government to rectify what they termed as “Punjab’s water injustice.”
Protest leaders, including Comrade Abdullah Chandio and Bakhtiar Jamali, addressed the crowd and expressed their discontent over the government’s failure to protect the province’s water rights. The leaders called for immediate action to ensure equitable water distribution, emphasizing its potential impact on agriculture and daily life.
In addition to water issues, the protest highlighted the growing insecurity in Sindh, pointing to the increasing number of crimes such as theft and robbery. The unresolved case of Priya Kumari, who remains missing even after several years, was presented as a stark example of the ineffectiveness of law enforcement agencies.
Speakers at the rally also condemned the encroachment on Sindh’s lands and resources. They warned that if these grievances were ignored, their movement could escalate into larger protests, including sit-ins on major highways in Punjab and road blockades, holding authorities accountable for any tensions.
The protest underscored a widespread demand for justice and transparency, urging the government to prioritize the welfare and security of Sindh’s residents.
