The concluding ceremony of the Sindhi Language National Awareness Campaign, organized by the Sindhi Language Authority, was held at Dr. Nabi Bakhsh Baloch Hall.
The event brought together prominent literary figures, including writer Jami Chandio, Chairman of the Sindhi Language Authority Dr. Ishaq Samejo, Secretary Dr. Ehsan Danish, classical singer Mazhar Hussain, and storyteller Tahmina Mufti and Noor Chakrani.
The awards were presented to individuals for their remarkable contributions to literature and culture. Special recognition was given to documentary filmmakers Muhammad Khan Kango and Javed Mehr for their efforts in promoting Sindhi heritage. The campaign focused on strengthening awareness about Sindhi language and advocating for its recognition at the national level.
Addressing the audience, Dr. Ishaq Samejo emphasized that the initiative aimed to enhance public consciousness regarding Sindhi as a national language. He expressed confidence that Sindhi would eventually attain official national language status.
He also noted that over 100 events were organized across Sindh in February as part of the campaign. To sustain these efforts, Parchaar Committees have been formed, incorporating stakeholders from various sectors of society to continue language advocacy.
Renowned Sindhi writer Jami Chandio, in his keynote address, congratulated the participants and campaign organizers, describing it as one of the most impactful language awareness movements in recent years. While acknowledging that the journey to achieving national language status is long, he highlighted that Sindhi intellectuals have also advocated for other indigenous languages, including Saraiki. He urged the Sindhi-speaking community to focus on producing literature and academic content in their native language to secure its place in the digital age.
Assistant Editor of the Sindhi Language Authority, Shoukat Chachar, highlighted the campaign’s outreach efforts, including university visits to encourage Sindhi language usage in educational institutions. Khalid Hussain Channa, Vice Chairman of the Sindh Graduates Association (SGA), reported that 33 events, including seminars, literary discussions, and awareness sessions, were conducted under the organization’s platform.
Speakers at the event reiterated their demand for Sindhi to be granted national language status and called for official recognition of all indigenous languages in Pakistan.
