Sindh’s Universities Commemorate Pakistan’s 78th Independence Day

Sindh Agriculture University (SAU), Tandojam, and the University of Sindh (SU), Jamshoro, today commemorated Pakistan’s 78th Independence Day with patriotic fervor.

SAU’s festivities included an “Azadi Rally” led by Vice Chancellor Dr. Altaf Ali Siyal, culminating in a flag-hoisting ceremony at the Vice Chancellor’s Secretariat. Dr. Siyal lauded the nation”s armed forces, emphasizing their strength and technological superiority. He encouraged youth to embrace education, particularly in market-relevant disciplines. Schoolchildren showcased national songs, tableaus, and cultural dances at the Dr. A.M. Sheikh Auditorium.

At SU, the Independence Day celebrations centered on national unity and social responsibility. Vice-Chancellor Dr. Khalil ur Rehman Khoumbati led the flag-hoisting ceremony at the Hyder Bux Jatoi Pavilion. Addressing the gathering under the theme “Ma’arke-e-Haq and Bunyan-Al-Mursoos,” Dr. Khoumbati reiterated Pakistan’s support for Kashmir’s self-determination, linking it to Pakistan”s own independence struggle. He stressed the importance of technology for national progress, urging students to embrace IT. Dr. Khoumbati also praised the value of independence, contrasting Pakistan”s freedom with nations embroiled in conflict. The celebrations concluded with a tree-planting campaign. Later, university officials joined children at the SOS Children’s Village for another flag-hoisting ceremony.

Government offices in Hyderabad also marked Independence Day. The Divisional Directorate of Information held a flag-hoisting and cake-cutting ceremony led by Divisional Director Shehzad Ahmed Sheikh. He emphasized the dual significance of the day, celebrating independence and commemorating the “Battle of Truth.” At the Circuit House, a grand ceremony included a flag hoisting, speeches, and performances. Divisional Commissioner Fayyaz Hussain Abbasi commended the students” patriotic spirit and referenced recent defense accomplishments. Mayor Kashif Ali Shoro praised the Pakistan Army”s performance and paid tribute to national figures. The event concluded with a tree-planting initiative.
