To eliminate wheat hoarding and prevent price increases, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah instructed stringent measures during a recent joint meeting. This meeting was held today at the Chief Minister’s House, emphasizing the urgent need to stabilize the wheat market and ensure food security across the province.
The Chief Minister stressed the need for direct monitoring of wheat stocks to prevent artificial shortages. He directed the Food Department to implement strategies that protect consumer interests while maintaining price stability and providing fair compensation to farmers.
The wheat procurement campaign, which began on 1 April 2026, set a support price of 3500 rupees for 40 kilograms, aiming for the purchase of one million metric tons. By 12 June, more than 81,348 metric tons had been successfully procured. The meeting also considered additional strategies, such as achieving targets through purchases from local markets and the Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Services Corporation (PASSCO).
Syed Murad Ali Shah reiterated the importance of these measures to safeguard public welfare and keep flour prices affordable, providing a strong strategic foundation to address food security challenges in Sindh.
