Sukkur District Council Approves Unanimous Resolution Against 6 Canal Projects

The Sukkur District Council unanimously approved a resolution rejecting the 6 canal projects in the Council’s meeting chaired by Chairman Syed Kamil Haider Shah, here today. The resolution was presented by Hafiz Rafiq Ahmed Soomro and was supported by two opposition members.

During the meeting, slogans of “No to Sindh’s Robbery” were chanted. Chairman Syed Kamil Haider Shah stated in a press conference that this resolution was passed with 100% majority in Pakistan’s first local council assembly. He further mentioned that this issue will be raised at the union council level as well.

Kamil Haider Shah said that council members are aware of local issues and that farming is being delayed due to water scarcity. He suggested that work on canals should be done in the Thar region of Sindh.

He appealed to avoid politicization, stating that the issue of canals is in Sindh’s interest and that the Pakistan People’s Party has always protected the province’s rights. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will address a public gathering against the canals in Rohri on April 25.

The chairman clarified that no new canals will be allowed, dismissing reports of canal approvals by President Asif Ali Zardari as baseless. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has made it clear that no new canals will be built. This matter is a life-and-death issue for the people of Sindh.
