Sukkur Mayor and Sindh government representative, Barrister Arsalan Islam Shaikh, inspected the Sukkur Barrage and exchanged views with Chief Engineer Akramullah Qureshi to review preparations in view of a possible severe flood. Assistant Commissioner Thobia Flak Rao, Head of Flood Control Room Abdul Aziz Soomro, and Superintendent Engineer Khalid Jan Baloch were also present on the occasion.
Mayor Shaikh confirmed the complete arrangements made by the Sindh administration for a possible major flood in the Indus River. He emphasized that citizens should be informed in a timely manner about the rise in water levels so that they can take necessary protective measures.
Chief Engineer Qureshi said in his briefing that the current water flow at Sukkur Barrage is 303,000 cusecs. He explained that the Irrigation Department releases arrival and discharge data every six hours for Guddu, Sukkur, and Kotri barrages. During severe floods, this reporting frequency will be increased to every three hours to ensure prompt data provision for all institutions and citizens.
