Train kills two minor sisters in Karachi

KARACHI:Two minor sisters were killed when a train ran over them in Gulistan Society area of Quaidabad in Karachi on Monday.

 

A fast-moving train ran over two girls Ferha, aged 8, and Ayesha, 6, at Gulistan Society area of Karachi. The cause behind the incident could not be ascertained yet.

 

The bodies were shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for medico-legal formalities and later handed over to the heirs. The incident has created a mourning atmosphere among the victim family members and relatives.

AVTTC Director visit SSUET to monitor PM Hundarmand Program

KARACHI:Director of National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC), Karachi, Muhammad Ali Chacher, Deputy Director Azizullah Chandio and Provincial Coordinator NAVTTC Sindh, Bharat Kumar visited Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology to monitor the progress of Prime Minister Hunarmand (Skills for All) Programme. Project Director, Dr. Tahir Fattani and Project Manager, Noman Ali Khan, gave a comprehensive presentation to the guest who immensely appreciated the efforts and performance of the concerned authorities.

 

They defined SOPs and explained about the measures being taken by the University for the Health Safety of the students with availability of doctor, medical staff and ambulance, according to a SSUET statement issued on Monday. They also shared students’ lists, course log files, details of workshops and seminars, assessments and information related to other allied facilities offered to the students.

 

NAVTTC Director, Muhammad Ali Chacher personally checked the process of vocational training and observed the quality of management and appreciated the measures taken by the university in time for the students and smooth execution of the program. NAVTTC team visited the ongoing classes, laboratories of SSUET. Sir Syed University is an esteemed university of Sindh and has 500 students registered in six trades under the PM Hunarmand Programme.

 

NAVTTC Director, Muhammad Ali Chacher said, “Sir Syed is managing this programme very effectively and successfully. It is highly commendable that Sir Syed University has become a valued partner of NAVTTC in very short time and has restarted the classes, strictly following the SOPs with a thorough professional approach.”

LG Minister gives away fire safety awards to 43 companies

KARACHI:Sindh Information and Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah has said that the ‎non-government organizations striving to promote awareness among the citizens about the fire safety ‎laws have been doing a commendable service.

 

He stated this while addressing as the chief guest at ‎the ceremony of 10th Fire Safety and Security Convention and Awards-2020. The event was jointly ‎organized by the National Forum for Environment and Health (FPAP) and Fire Protection Association of ‎Pakistan.

 

The minister appreciated the services of both the NFEH and FPAP ‎continuing for last 10 years to promote awareness about fire safety laws in the country.‎

 

NFEH Vice-President Nadeem Ashraf said on the occasion that the fire safety and security convention and ‎awards were being held consecutively for last 10 years to assemble all the relevant stakeholders and ‎organizations on one platform to discuss issues related to fire safety and to appreciate the institutions ‎doing best practices related to fire protection.‎

Mehran Express resumes service

KARACHI:Pakistan Railways resumed the Hyderabad-Mirpurkhas destined Mehran Express from City Railway station Karachi Sunday afternoon.

 

Sabir Qaimkhani, a federal lawmaker from NA-226 Hyderabad-II, saw off the passengers of this much-desired public facility. During the annual DS Special inspection of Hyderabad-Mirpurkhas section exactly two months back on October 20, the local citizens encircled the Divisional Superintendent Karachi Railways at every station requesting him for early resumption of train service in Mirpurkhas region as road transport fares had drastically soared in the wake of Corona pandemic.

 

The 149 Up/150 Dn Mehran Express will have a four-and-half hours total journey period for a distance of approximately 250 kilometers between Karachi City and Mirpurkhas, and vice versa, besides having eight enroute stoppages: Cantonment station, Drigh Road, Landhi, Jung Shahi, Kotri, Hyderabad, Tando Jam and Tando Allahyar.

 

The resumed train comprises nine economy class coaches and a brake van having a cumulative passenger carrying capacity of 734 people. The 149 Up departs at 3:55 pm from Karachi City Station whereas 150 Down departs at 5 am in the morning from Mirpurkhas.

Minister follows zero-tolerance against illegal hydrants

KARACHI:Sindh Information and Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah has been strictly following the policy of zero-tolerance against the menace of illegal hydrants in Karachi.

 

The Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) has been conducting an stern operation against the illegal hydrants in the city on the directives of the Sindh Local Government Minister, according to a statement issued on Sunday.

 

The KWSB following these directives of the Local Government Minister conducted one such raid late on Saturday night against the illegal hydrant near the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases. The people involved in operating the illegal hydrant ran away from the site after seeing that the raiding team of the KWSB was approaching to take action against them.

 

The raiding team confiscated all the equipment used for operating the hydrant and also disconnected the illegal water connection present at the site for pilfering water from the line of KWSB. The Local Government Minister said in his message that the crackdown was on and would remain continue to take action against the elements that cause harm to the KWSB and were also responsible for water shortage in the city. He said the operation in this regard would continue indiscriminately without accepting any influence or giving favour to anyone. He said the people of Karachi would not suffer anymore due to the mafia involved in water pilferage.

 

The Local Government Minister recalled that special instructions were issued by the Chairman of Pakistan Peoples Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah to take strict action to eliminate the mafia behind water stealing in Karachi by handing its members stern punishment.

(CITY): Students demand opening of educational institutions in Sindh

LARKANA:Students of various educational institutions of Larkana held a large protest demonstration at Jinnah Bagh of the city on Sunday against closure of schools, colleges and universities across Sindh province on the pretext of COVID-19 pandemic.

 

They were holding placards and shouting slogans against the provincial government which, according to them, was depriving them of their right to education on one pretext or the other.

 

Naveed Abbas Kalhoro, Ateeque Lashari, Aitzaz Gaincho, Mansoor Shah, Azam Shah, Aftab Chandio and others alleged that there was no coronavirus for PDM leaders who were constantly addressing huge political public gatherings across the country, but when the issue of opening educational institutions was brought forward the rulers always hidden their faces under the pandemic which was against the spirits of law of equity.

 

The leaders said the future of the young generation had been put at stake by the provincial government and education in Sindh was already at the verge of collapse due to worst mismanagement and bad governance. The participants said entire provincial cabinet was participating in PDM public meeting, but the Sindh government intended to produce blind, deaf, dumb and people without thinking, which they strongly condemned.

 

They said: “All shopping centres, hotels, shops are open and transport is also plying but only institutions which impart education have been forcibly locked for ulterior motives.” The protesters demanded immediate opening of schools, colleges, universities and libraries so that young people could be able to get education.

 

Centre accused of creating gas shortage in Sindh

KARACHI:Barrister Murtaza Wahab, Spokesperson of Sindh Governments and Advisor to the Sindh Chief Minister on Law, Environment and Coastal Development, said in a statement on Sunday that various areas across Sindh were being deprived of gas supplies amid severe cold.

 

He said that PTI should not sacrifice its biased policies to the people of Sindh. “The zealous people of Sindh are being punished for rejecting the elected government. The people of Sindh condemn the biased thinking of the PTI government,” he said.

 

“The federal government should overcome the gas crisis in Sindh, stop harassing the people of Sindh by creating gas shortage as citizens are suffering from incompetence of PTI government in cold weather. Ruthless and incompetent rulers do not care about the people,” he concluded.
