London, June 26, 2018 (PPI-OT): H.E. Syed Ibne Abbas, Pakistan High Commissioner to the UK met Rt Hon Brandon Lewis MP, Party Chair, Conservative Party, in London today. The issues of mutual interest including political relations, trade ties, parliamentary exchanges and diaspora came under discussion. The two sides expressed satisfaction over bilateral relations between the two countries which are based on mutual understanding. Both the sides agreed to work together to promote mutually beneficial relations.

High Commission invites applications for conducting NADRA surgeries during the months of July, August and September 2018

London, June 21, 2018 (PPI-OT): To ensure effective delivery of Consular Services to the community, the High Commission for Pakistan in London regularly organizes visits of the NADRA Mobile Registration Team (MRT) to the surrounding areas of London.

The High Commission now plans to conduct NADRA surgeries during the months of July August and September 2018. In this regard, the High Commission invites applications for organizing NADRA surgeries in the surrounding areas of London. The application should be addressed to “Consular Officer, High Commission for Pakistan, London” and can be sent either through email at nadra.london@phclondon.org or through post to the following address:

The application should include complete details including names and contact numbers of the organizer/organization and complete address of the venue. Moreover, the date of the last surgery conducted in that area should also be mentioned in the application.

Pakistan Army Team wins Pace Sticking Competition at Sandhurst

London, June 19, 2018 (PPI-OT):Pakistan Army team won the drill competition commonly known as All Arms and International Pace Sticking Competition held at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, UK on 14 June 2018. With as little time as two months for learning the drill exercise, the team from Pakistan Military Academy high kicked its way to the surprise win at the 90th Competition at Sandhurst. In his message of felicitation on the occasion, H.E. Syed Ibne Abbas, the High Commissioner, commended Pakistan Team’s dedication and spirit to take on the challenge. He said Pakistan Team once again demonstrated at the Sandhurst Competition the highest standards of professionalism and excellence maintained by our armed forces.

International wrestlers to visit Pakistan

London, June 12, 2018 (PPI-OT): As many as 25 wrestlers from all over the world including USA, UK, Germany, France and Belgium will visit Pakistan in August 2018. Several wrestling contests will be held in different cities of Pakistan to promote the sport as well as the image of Pakistan as a sport loving country. The trip is being organized by a wrestling company called ‘Ring of Pakistan’. Some of the wrestlers, from the group of 25, visited the High Commission today and shared the plan of their upcoming trip to Pakistan. They were led by Imran Shah, Director, Ring of Pakistan.

Welcoming the wrestlers, H.E. Syed Ibne Abbas, the High Commissioner commended their efforts to promote the image of Pakistan through one of the most popular sports of the country, i.e. wrestling. He expressed that with the advent of international wrestling to Pakistan, the traditional sport will revive and thrive in the country and it will provide a healthy activity for the youth of Pakistan.

The High Commissioner further said that the people of Pakistan look forward to welcoming the wrestling celebrities to their country. He also assured the organizers of all possible support for the event. The wrestlers were accompanied by Imran Hussain MP, Dr Ejaz Hussain and others. Imran Hussain MP said that the wrestling trip would show to the world that Pakistan is fully capable of hosting international sports events. He expressed his full support to the organizers.

High Commissioner attends Sir Tim Hitchens’ inauguration as the new President of Wolfson College, Oxford

London, May 02, 2018 (PPI-OT): H.E. Syed Ibne Abbas, Pakistan High Commissioner to the UK attended inauguration ceremony of Sir Tim Hitchens, CMG LVO as the new President of Wolfson College, Oxford. The ceremony took place in the Haldane Room of Wolfson College, Oxford and was attended by, among others, Lord Chris Patten, former Presidents of College, Ambassadors, senior government officials and members of academia. The High Commissioner felicitated Sir Tim Hitchens on his election as the new President of a prestigious institution and wished him well with his new role.

In his interaction with Sir Tim Hitchens and Prof. Matthew McCartney, Director of South Asia Studies at Oxford, the High Commissioner discussed academic collaboration between Pakistani educational institutions and Oxford University. Professor Matthew McCartney would soon be going to Pakistan as Visiting Professor. The High Commissioner also interacted with Pakistani students currently studying at Oxford University.

High Commissioner interacts with Pakistani community at Pakistan Consulate Birmingham

London, April 30, 2018 (PPI-OT):H.E. Syed Ibne Abbas, Pakistan High Commissioner to the UK held an interactive session with the Pakistani community on Saturday, 28 April 2018, during his 2-day visit to Birmingham. The event was attended by a large number of community members from Cardiff, Wales, Bristol, Nottingham and Derby. Mr. Khalid Mahmood, Member Parliament was also present on the occasion.

Welcoming the High Commissioner and the community, Consul General Ahmar Ismail highlighted the key achievements made by the Consulate, including the relocation of the Consulate to the new building at a convenient location and the upgradation and automation of the entire Consular Services. In this regard he mentioned a dedicated and up to date website, online appointment system, providing consular services at the doorstep of the community through community outreach efforts and weekend surgeries in major cities.

In his remarks, the High Commissioner thanked the community for their attendance and said that it was one of his main priorities to set high standards of public service delivery for the convenience of our community and he was glad that the initiatives were received well by the community. He appreciated the important contributions that Pakistani-British community has made in the progress and prosperity of the United Kingdom. The High Commissioner highlighted that Pakistani diaspora was serving as a strong bridge between Pakistan and the UK. However, there was a need for increased participation in the UK politics commensurate with the population of our community, he added.

The High Commissioner briefed the audience about the efforts made by the Government at the highest level to highlight the need of resolving the Kashmir dispute through peaceful means. He urged the community members to approach their local MPs and Councillors for highlighting the issue of grave violations of human rights committed by the security forces in Indian Occupied Kashmir (IOK) at appropriate political fora.

On the economic front, the High Commissioner emphasized the need for supplementing the existing excellent political relations between Pakistan and the UK by expanding the bilateral economic and trade relations. In this regard, he mentioned that the UK Export Finance has recently doubled its export credit for Pakistan which would help the businessmen of the two countries. He informed the audience that last year, the Bust of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah was unveiled at the historic British Museum. The Bust was permanently installed at the Quaid’s alma mater, the prestigious Lincolns Inn on 29 November 2017. He said that in the next phase, it had been planned to install a Bust of Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal – National poet of Pakistan – at Stratford upon Avon which is Shakespeare’s Birthplace.

The High Commissioner urged the community members especially the women and youth to assume greater responsibilities in the British society in their respective professions and businesses. In this regard, the High Commission shall be sending five young individuals to Pakistan every year for them to explore our country. This initiative would help bring a positive change in the general perception held about Pakistan in the UK.

In his comments, Mr. Khalid Mahmood thanked the High Commissioner for making it to Birmingham for the interactive session. He underlined the fact that it was a long felt desire of the community members to relocate the Consulate building from the old Bismillah Building to the new location. On the issue of Kashmir, he stated that as a member of British Parliament and the Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs, he focused on the massive violations of human rights and civil liberties in IOK. He added that the British society gave great importance to human rights issues.

The MP underscored that the Pakistani and Kashmiri communities in the UK may synergize their efforts to play a vital role in highlighting the Kashmir issue in the Parliament through their respective members of Parliament. At the end, he appreciated the key initiatives of the Consulate in respect of Public diplomacy for projection of Cultural values of Pakistan. At the end, the High Commissioner responded to the comments/proposals made by the community members.
