Police in Thatta today thwarted an attempt to smuggle Indian gutka into the region, arresting the supplier and seizing 3,500 packets of the banned substance.
The operation, conducted on the orders of SSP Thatta, was led by SHO Muhammad Ali Damrah of Gharo Police Station. The action took place on the Ari Camp Link Road in Gharro, where police intercepted a Khyber car (PL-3991) attempting to deliver the gutka.
The police arrested the driver, Moeez Ahmed, a resident of Korangi, Karachi. Two mobile phones were also recovered from his possesion in the operation. A case has been registered against the suspect under the Gutka Act at Gharo Police Station. Further investigation into the case has been started.
Gutka has been banned in Pakistan since 2011. Despite the ban, illegal trafficking and distribution of Gutka remain a persistent issue in various parts of the country.
In recent years, authorities have stepped up efforts to curb the smuggling and sale of such harmful products. The smuggling of Indian Gutka across borders remains a serious challenge for law enforcement agencies.
It is often transported covertly through vehicles and hidden in goods, making it difficult for authorities to detect. The operation in Thatta is part of ongoing efforts to combat the illegal trade and protect public health.
