Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar on Wednesday directed law enforcement agencies to ensure foolproof security arrangements for central and other processions, and religious gatherings being held across the province on the 8th of Muharram.
He said the protection of lives and property of citizens and mourners during Muharram must be ensured at all costs, adding that police, Rangers and other law enforcement agencies should remain fully alert and operational to maintain peace and security.
The home minister instructed authorities to enhance surveillance at all sensitive locations, Imambargahs and procession routes, and to maintain strict monitoring throughout the events.
Lanjar directed officials to utilize modern technology, including CCTV cameras, surveillance systems and drone monitoring, to continuously oversee processions and religious congregations across the province.
He further ordered that control rooms established in all districts remain operational round the clock and that an effective rapid-response mechanism be maintained to deal with any emergency situation.
The home minister appealed to the public to promptly report any suspicious individuals or activities to the police or relevant helplines to help ensure public safety.
He emphasized that religious scholars, organizers and members of the public from all schools of thought should play their role in promoting law and order and strengthening interfaith and sectarian harmony.
Lanjar said adherence to the code of conduct and government directives during Muharram would help foster peace, brotherhood and religious tolerance.
He also instructed field officers to ensure continuous monitoring of security, traffic management and emergency arrangements while providing maximum facilitation to mourners.
The minister praised the dedication, professionalism and services of law enforcement agencies, the administration and volunteers for their efforts in ensuring the peaceful conduct of 8th Muharram processions and gatherings.
