Train-truck collision near Ghotki takes driver’s life

UBAURO: A Green Line passenger train en route from Karachi to Punjab collided with a mini-truck loaded with sugarcane on Friday morning near Ghotki, killing the truck driver.

According to rescue sources, the truck breached the railway crossing gate in Muhammadpur due to dense fog. The accident caused substantial damage to the train’s engine and resulted in the instantaneous death of the mini-truck driver, identified as Noor-ul-Tanwri. His body was shifted to a local hospital and later handed over to the heirs after completion of medico-legal formalities.

Fortunately, passengers aboard the train emerged unharmed. The train came to a stop on an alternative track for the repair. Following the collision, authorities swiftly requested for a replacement engine from the authorities, which was dispatched to the destination to restore the train operation.

Railway officials have initiated a comprehensive investigation into the incident to ascertain the precise circumstances leading to the collision. The findings from the inquiry will be pivotal in implementing preventive measures and enhancing safety protocols.
