A high-level delegation from Istanbul Bar Association No. 2 of Trkiye visited the Karachi Press Club as part of its official visit to Pakistan and reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening legal, judicial and professional ties between Pakistan and Trkiye, as well as continuing efforts against human rights violations in Gaza.
According to a KPC information today, the delegation was led by Istanbul Bar Association No. 2 President Advocate Yasin Samli.
The Turkish delegation was received by former Karachi Press Club Secretary Amir Latif, former Secretary Maqsood Yousufi, former President and Secretary and Karachi Union of Journalists President Tahir Hassan Khan, Karachi Union of Journalists (KUJ-Dastoor) President Nasrullah Chaudhry, former Joint Secretary Shams Kario and others.
Addressing the reception ceremony, Advocate Yasin Samli said that Istanbul Bar Association No. 2, in collaboration with bar associations around the world, had been actively pursuing legal efforts against the ongoing killings, grave human rights violations and atrocities committed against the Palestinian people in Gaza.
He stated that the international legal campaign had achieved significant milestones, including the issuance of arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other Israeli officials, describing it as an important development for international justice. He reaffirmed the association’s commitment to continuing its struggle for justice and the protection of human rights for the Palestinian people.
Highlighting the longstanding brotherly relations between Pakistan and Trkiye, Samli said lawyers, legal institutions and media organizations of both countries could further strengthen cooperation through the exchange of expertise and joint training programmes.
Participants at the event held detailed discussions on expanding cooperation in the legal and media sectors, including freedom of expression, legal reforms, judicial systems, professional training and institutional linkages between Pakistan and Trkiye.
Earlier during their visit, members of the Istanbul Bar Association delegation met officials of the Pakistan Bar Council, Sindh Bar Council, Punjab Bar Council, Lahore High Court, Lahore High Court Bar Association and the Office of the Advocate General Punjab, where they received detailed briefings on Pakistan’s judicial system, bar council administration, legal education and professional training.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was also signed between Pakistani and Turkish lawyers to promote legal cooperation, joint training programmes, research activities, legal education, exchange of professional experiences and institutional collaboration between the two countries.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, the Karachi Press Club presented the Turkish delegation with traditional Sindhi Ajrak as a cultural gift. The delegates expressed their appreciation for the warm hospitality extended by the people of Pakistan, the legal fraternity and the journalistic community.
Representatives from both countries reiterated their commitment to expanding legal, media and professional cooperation through joint conferences, seminars, training workshops, delegation exchanges and collaborative research initiatives in the future.
