Two fishermen, who drowned yesterday in a boat capsizing mishap in the sea near Keti Bandar, could not be recovered by Thursday despite hectic efforts.
According to a PPI report, the incident involved fishermen from the village of Misri Khan Parheri of taluka Ghora Bari in district Thatta. Yesterday, local fishermen rescued Mushtaq, who was found semi-conscious in the sea, and shifted him to a nearby hospital, while the body of Anees Parheri was recovered from the sea.
However, the bodies of two fishermen Manzoor Khaskheli and Majeed Khaskheli have not been found yet, even after 48 hours. Local divers, along with Navy personnel, are continuing the search. The families of the missing fishermen are in deep grief and state of shock.
The coastal area of Thatta, particularly Keti Bandar, is home to many fishing communities who rely on the sea for their livelihood. Fishing is not just an economic activity but a way of life for these communities. Despite its importance, the fishing industry in this region faces numerous challenges, including outdated equipment, lack of safety measures, and unpredictable weather conditions, making it a hazardous occupation.
Tragic incidents, such as boats capsizing, are not uncommon, especially during rough sea conditions or when vessels are overloaded. Local fishermen often lack access to advanced safety gear or modern rescue facilities, relying primarily on their experience and community support in times of crisis. In some cases, the Navy and local authorities extend their assistance, but the response time and resources are often limited.
