The United Kingdom has introduced a digital eVisa system for Pakistani students and skilled workers, eliminating the need for physical visa stickers in passports. The British High Commission in Islamabad announced the change on Tuesday, stating that the new process, effective immediately, offers a fully digital proof of immigration status. Applicants will now establish a UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) account to access and administer their visa information online.

British High Commissioner Jane Marriott praised the streamlined system, highlighting its convenience for verifying identity and visa status. The digital format also allows applicants to retain their passports, saving them valuable time.

The eVisa system applies to primary applicants in several categories, including students (including short-term study), various Global Business Mobility routes, Global Talent, International Sportsperson, Skilled Worker (including Health and Care), Temporary Work routes, and the Youth Mobility Scheme. Applicants can connect their eVisa to travel documents like passports for seamless UK entry. The UKVI account’s “View and Prove” service enables individuals to validate their status with employers, landlords (in England), and other parties.

This change doesn’t impact an applicant’s immigration status or entry/stay conditions. Dependents and those applying under other categories, like visitor visas, will still receive physical stickers. Existing valid visa holders are not required to take any action. This initiative reflects the UK’s ongoing modernization of its immigration procedures, aiming for enhanced security, efficiency, and accessibility.
