US Dollar Firms in Open Market as Key Currencies Fluctuate

The US dollar maintained a slight premium in the open market compared to the interbank rate on Wednesday, indicating sustained demand for the greenback, according to figures released by the Exchange Companies Association of Pakistan.

In the open market, the American currency was quoted with a buying rate of PKR 279.50 and a selling rate of PKR 280.32. These figures stood moderately above the closing interbank valuations, where the dollar was traded between PKR 279.05 and PKR 279.25.

Against other major international currencies, the Pakistani rupee showed varied performance. The euro was priced at PKR 325.81 for buying and PKR 329.11 for selling.

The British pound sterling remained the most expensive currency on the list, with quotations recorded at PKR 374.54 for buying and PKR 378.38 for selling.

In trading against currencies from the Gulf and Far East, the UAE Dirham was valued at PKR 76.09 and PKR 76.95 for buying and selling respectively. The Saudi Riyal was similarly priced at PKR 74.44 for buying and PKR 75.21 for selling.

The Japanese Yen was recorded with a narrow spread, trading between PKR 1.75 on the buying side and PKR 1.80 on the selling side.
