Karachi: Global digital operator VEON Group has announced a $20 million investment in Mobilink Bank to enhance the bank's growth and expand digital Islamic banking services in Pakistan. This move follows a previous $15 million investment by VEON in January 2025, highlighting the group's confidence in Mobilink Bank's momentum and its integration with JazzCash amid the rapid expansion of the country's digital banking and microfinance sectors.
Mobilink Bank, a part of the VEON Group, aims to utilize the capital to expand its financing portfolio for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), advance its Islamic banking offerings, and strengthen its position as a technology-driven, digitally native bank. The focus remains on increasing regulated financial access for underserved communities, especially small businesses and women.
This investment aligns with VEON Group's strategy of enhancing financial ecosystems through technology-driven solutions and disciplined capital deployment. Mobilink Bank is positioned as a key player in Pakistan's evolving financial landscape.
Aamir Ibrahim, VEON Group Executive Committee Member and Chairman of Mobilink Bank, stated that the investment reflects the group's long-term commitment to Pakistan. It strengthens Mobilink Bank and JazzCash's capacity to invest in technology infrastructure and contribute to inclusive and sustainable digital banking.
Haaris Mahmood Chaudhary, President and CEO of Mobilink Bank, emphasized that the investment will support the expansion of shariah-compliant Islamic banking services, helping small businesses formalize cash flows, access credit, and build financial resilience. The bank aims to provide practical, technology-enabled financial solutions, especially for women and underserved communities.
Mobilink Bank's growing deposit base and MSME-focused lending portfolio are helping small businesses transition from informal cash usage to regulated banking. Targeted financial products for women and green financing initiatives further support inclusive growth and resilience against Pakistan's climate and economic challenges.
Together with JazzCash, which serves over 57 million customers and is supported by a network of over one million merchants and agents, Mobilink Bank anchors one of Pakistan's largest digital financial ecosystems. JazzCash processed transactions worth over PKR 15 trillion this year, demonstrating the scale and impact of fintech in advancing financial inclusion and digital innovation in Pakistan.
