The Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) is promoting wheelchair tennis in Karachi.
This program, in collaboration with the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and its Wheelchair Tennis Department, is being held at Karachi’s Union Club. Weekly training sessions will continue until October.
Ten wheelchair tennis players earned a spot in the extended camp after participating in two tournaments in July and August. Eighteen participants took part in the July tournament, while fourteen competed in the August event. Each player receives a travel allowance of PKR 500 per session.
The coaching team includes Muhammad Asif as the coach, Muhammad Khalid Rehman as the camp commandant, and Salman Kareem Mughal coordinating the program. The PTF aims to expand the reach of these training camps to other regions, including Peshawar, Mirpurkhas, Lahore, Faisalabad, Hyderabad, and Rawalpindi.
Wheelchair tennis was introduced in Pakistan in 2018 by the PTF. Since then, the country has consistently participated in international wheelchair tennis competitions, such as the Asian Para Games in Hangzhou, China, in 2023. Pakistan also achieved success in ITF Wheelchair Tennis Tournaments and Tennis Asian Qualifiers in Sri Lanka last February.
