Widespread Rainfall, Flood Predicted for Punjab

The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) today issued a province-wide weather alert after forecasting widespread rainfall across most districts over the next two days, directing local administrations to remain prepared for any weather-related emergencies.

PDMA Director General Umar Javed said commissioners and deputy commissioners throughout Punjab had been placed on high alert under the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. He cautioned that the expected rainfall could increase water levels in rivers, streams and seasonal waterways, heightening the risk of localized flooding.

The weather forecast indicates rain is likely in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Faisalabad, Khushab and Sargodha. Similar conditions are expected in Sahiwal, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Nankana Sahib, Chiniot and nearby areas.

The authority also predicted rainfall in Okara, Kasur, Noorpur Thal, Bhakkar, Mianwali, Layyah, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Khanewal, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, Kot Addu, Rahim Yar Khan and Rajanpur.

Advising residents to take precautionary measures, Javed urged people to stay indoors or in secure locations during thunderstorms, avoid open spaces when lightning occurs, and remain vigilant during dust storms and strong winds. He also advised tourists heading to northern regions to travel carefully and monitor weather conditions before setting out.
