IGP orders tight security for Abdullah Shah Ghazi Urs

KARACHI: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh Amjad Javed Saleemi on Friday directed police officials to adopt exceptional security measures for the Urs of Abdullah Shah Ghazi.

The police chief ordered all Deputy Inspector Generals of police (DIGs) to assure strict surveillance, snap checking, advance intelligence collection, patrolling and targeted operations to maintain law and order in province.

The IGP said that in view of participation of devotees from other parts of the country, the security be beefed up on entry and exit points of the city. The IGP also directed security measures for Masajid, Imambargahs, shrines, embassies, hospitals, airport and all public places.

The annual Urs of the saint is celebrated on Zilhaj 22nd, as per Islamic calendar every year.

On account of the Urs of Hazrat Abdullah Shah Ghazi, Mayor Karachi Waseem Akhtar has announced local holiday in all departments and affiliated institutions of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) on Monday.

According to a notification issued by the office of Karachi mayor, the holiday is in accordance to resolution number 594, dated 27-01-2005 passed by the City Council Karachi.
