Sailani Welfare, SSUET ink innovative deal

KARACHI:Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Sailani Welfare and Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology (SSUET) to promote the vision of the Honorable President of Pakistan, Arif Alvi, for technological advancement. The purpose of the MoU is to introduce new technologies to the youth and updated them with the latest trends to compete in global market.

Registrar SSUET, Engr. Cdre (R) Syed Sarfraz Ali and Maulana Bashir Farooqui Qadri, Chairman of Saylani Welfare Trust, have singed this agreement in the presence of the Chancellor Jawaid Anwar and Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Vali Uddin. The mission of the Presidential Initiative for Artificial Intelligence and Computing (PIAIC) is to reshape Pakistan by revolutionizing education, research, and business by adopting latest, cutting-edge technologies.

Maulana Bashir Farooqui, Chairman Sailani Welfare Trust, said that Sailani Welfare Trust will take care of all the financial aspect of this programme and we will work transparently for the betterment of all Pakistani youth to adopt latest technologies. We want Pakistan to become global hub for AI, data science, cloud native computing, block chain and internet of things.

Chancellor SSUET, Jawaid Anwar, said that the President’s vision is aligned with the vision of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan and SSUET is already working for uplifting the youth of Karachi and Pakistan. Focusing on human resource development, Continuing Education Programme (CEP) of Sir Syed University was initiated to cater to the increasing demand of professionally qualified workers in the country and abroad.

Vice Chancellor SSUET, Prof. Dr. Vali Uddin said that the modern era of fourth industrial revolution with emerging and enabling technologies and systems like Artificial Intelligence, IoT, Blockchain, Cloud Computing, and Cybersecurity is bringing positive impact on improving the quality of life and experience. Technical skills help you work more efficiently boost your confidence and make you a more valuable candidate for employers. The employees with technical skills are often better at multitasking in a challenging and complex role.

CM speaks at PN war course participants, says he has embarked Sindh upon road to progress

KARACHI:Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has said that the PPP government in the province, just after restoring law and order, has embarked the province on the road to development, prosperity.

“Development and prosperity of any province or country depends upon best working conditions which can be created with ideal law and order,” he said while addressing 51-Pakistan Staff Course participants led by their Commandant PN War College Rear Admiral Shifaat Ali Khan who called on him here at the CM House. The participants belong to different countries, including Bangladesh, Bahrain, Sri Lanka and other countries. The meeting was attended by chief Secretary Mumtaz Shah, IG Sindh Mushtaq Maher, ACS Home Qazi Shahid Pervez, PSCM Sajid Jamal Abro, secretaries of different departments.

The chief minister said that the province of Sindh had the worst law and order- people used to travel in police convoys and in Karachi no-go areas, target killing, kidnapping for ransom and extortion were the order of the day. “The first and gigantic task for the government of PPP in 2008 was to restore law and order in the province, therefore in the first phase highways were cleared from the dacoits by launching different operations,” he said and then focused on Karachi.

Mr Shah said that Karachi despite being a cosmopolitan city had turned into no-go areas. “People had no courage even the police to penetrate in such areas,” he said and added that the policemen who had participated in Karachi operation were killed in a target which had demoralized them.

The PPP government in Sindh not only enhanced the morale of the policemen by enhancing their salaries, equipped them with latest weapons and gadgets, mobilized them with new vehicles but enhanced compensation, if any of them loses his life in the line of his duty, Mr Shah said and added then targeted operation was started which not only restored peace in the city but restored public confidence in the government.

Mr Shah said that after restoration of law and order major international events such as cricket matches, literary festivals, Bohra jamaat and various others were conducted successfully and smoothly in Karachi.

The CM said that the provincial government made a massive investment in Thar and turned it into one of the hubs of investment. ‘Today, Thar has a vast road network, airport, and major projects of mining, power generation, coal to gas, coal to liquid and newly established educational institutions,” he said.

Talking about health facilities, Murad Ali Shah said that his government has improved three major hospitals, NICVD, JPMC and NICH in Karachi. “The NICVD has eight satellites in other district headquarters of the province and open-heart surgery is performed in Karachi and Sukkur,” he said and added Gambat Institute of Health has an expertise in liver transplantation and so far they have conducted 5000 liver transplants.

He said that the Cyberknife of JPMC was one of the best facilities in the world where free of cost treatment was provided, as. As a matter of fact such treatment costs over $100,000 in other countries.

COVID: Mr Shah said that his government was the only provincial government which established a 200-bedded Institute of Infectious Diseases or what it was known as COVID hospitals at NIPA. “This institute apart from providing treatment to the COVID patients would conduct research to control infectious diseases,” he said.

PPP Unit: He also proudly told the visiting delegation that his government on Public Private Partnership bases has constructed major roads, such 4-lane Hyderabad-Mirpurkhas road, Karachi-Thatta road, Jhirk-Mulakatiar bridge on river Indus, Thar coal mining, water supply to Thar Coal Blocks, Ghotki-Kandhkot bridge on River Indus and various others. The chief minister responded to the questions of the participants and presented the Commandant War Course College a shield and other souvenirs.

HEC Alerts Students Not to Take admission in MPhil, PhD Programmes in Affiliated Colleges

ISLAMABAD:The Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan has alerted students across the country not to take admission in PhD and MS/MPhil/Equivalent programmes offered by the affiliated colleges and institutes.

Students have been strictly advised not to seek admission in any programme offered by affiliated colleges and institutes at MPhil and PhD level, since the resultant degrees shall not be recognized and attested by HEC. The affiliated colleges/institutes have also been advised not to offer and advertise admission in PhD and MPhil/MS/Equivalent Programmes. They have been warned that any such action is liable to be proceeded as per law.

KP govt decides to build three new dams

ISLAMABAD:Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has decided to construct three new dams in Tank and Dera Ismail Khan districts to refill the ground of water level.

According to a report on Tuesday, the new dams included Tank Zam Dam, Chodwan Zam Dam and Daraban Dam would be constructed on priority basis as the region has facing water shortage, said official source. After construction these dams an estimated 109,721 acres of barren land would be irrigate and 25.5 MW of electricity would also be generated as well.

These dams would also bring an agricultural revolution in KP’s improvised zone, besides ensuring food security and creating job opportunities for the local people. By using water efficient models the command area can be enhanced and would help in achieving self-sufficiency in food sector as per the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan. The decision of the provincial government was highly lauded by the people of Tank and DI Khan who were of the view that would highly usher a new era of prosperity in the area.

Special teams soon to recover property tax

KARACHI:Sindh Minister for Excise and Taxation and Narcotics Control Department and Parliamentary Affairs and Food Mukesh Kumar Chawla has said that special recovery teams are being constituted to recover property tax from chronic defaulters having arrears of five lacs and above.

Besiding imposing fines, a legal will also be initiated against chronic defaulters. This he said while presiding over a meeting here in his office. Secretary ET and NC Department Atif Rehman, Director Generals Aurangzeb Akbar Phanwar, Iqbal Ahmed Laghari, Director Taxes -I Stamina Bhutto and other officers also attended the meeting.

He also asked the officers to make tireless efforts to achieve targets till the end of current financial year and departmental action would also be taken against those officers who would not be able to achieve their targets. Provincial Minister for ET and NC Department and Parliamentary Affairs and Food Mukesh Kumar Chawla directed all ETOs (Property Tax) to communicate and liaison with the NBP branches located in their jurisdiction to ensure payment through I Link. He said that it was our prime duty to work hard and generate revenue for the government and all measures must be taken within legal framework.

Punjab Food Authority seals food outlet in Lahore

LAHORE:The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Tuesday sealed a food unit in the provincial capital during a grand operation under the supervision of DG Food Authority Rafaqat Ali Niswana.

During a raid on Maraba (Marmalade) and Pickle Unit located at China Road Shalimar Town, the authority has discarded more than 1,600 substandard food items. DG Food Authority Rafaqat Ali Niswana said that rotten fruits and vegetables were being used to make the Maraba and pickles by adding poor quality spices to them.

According to the DG Food Authority, fungus-stained Maraba and pickles were being supplied in dirty cans and banned blue chemical drums. The DG Food Authority said that action was taken over the use of artificial flavours, chemicals and substandard storage while medical and food licenses of the employees were missing.

Rafaqat Ali Niswana further said that there is no compromise on food quality and violation of laws will be dealt with strictly. Earlier, the PFA launched a major operation against substandard mayonnaise and ketchup production units in Lahore. DG Food Authority carried out successful operations in factories located at Thokar Niaz Baig, Madina Colony, Samanabad and Raiwind Road areas and destroyed 3452 kg substandard food items, Bol News reported.

Global Soccer Venture and NED University sign USD12 million deal

KARACHI:NED University of Engineering and Technology (NED) and Global Soccer Ventures (GSV) enter into a 10 year agreement to create the first soccer city stadium in Pakistan.
