Sindh, Center discuss narcotics control matters

Karachi:Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah presiding over a high-level joint meeting of provincial and federal narcotics controlling agencies, especially attended by Federal Minister for Narcotics Shaharyar Afridi, has decided to launch intelligence-based operation against drug smugglers and peddlers and sharing data of smugglers with each other.

The others who attended the meeting include chief secretary Mumtaz Shah, provincial Minister for Excise and Narcotic Mukesh Chawla, Advisor to CM Murtaza Wahab, DG Pakistan Maritime Security Rear Admiral Zak ur Rehman, Chief Collector Customs Wasif Memon, Deputy DG Rangers Brigadier, Deputy DG Coastguards Col Muzafar Hussain and other concerned federal as well as provincial officers.

The chief minister said that his government through provincial police and excise department has already launched an operation against drug peddlers so that ice drug, hashish, cocaine, marijuana, heroin, opium, bhang, gutaka, mainpuri and mawa could not penetrate in the cities, particularly in educational institutions. “Our Karachi police has shown a commendable progress by seizing ice and others drugs and arresting a large number of culprits,” he said.

The chief minister said that legislation was required to deal the gutka and mainpuri cases. “We are working on legislation and would soon be passed from the assembly,” he said.

The Chief Secretary and IG police suggested that the actual control was required at the borders of neighboring country from where illegal drugs are brought to Pakistan. “In Sindh or Punjab there was no such factory where such dangerous were manufactured but all these are smuggled here in Pakistan,” the IG Sindh said.

Federal minister for Narcotics, Shaharyar Afridi urged all the federal agencies to play their due role in curbing the drug smuggling and peddling crime and keep posting Sindh government all the related information. He appreciated the efforts of Sindh government for controlling the situation.
