Sindh set to plant one billion trees, informs CS

KARACHI:Chief Secretary Sindh Mumtaz Ali Shah has said that tree plantation is the only way to save the world from the danger of global warming.

This he said while inaugurating a tree plantation campaign titled “Sarsabz Sindh” by planting a Neem tree along with all provincial administrative secretaries and school children at National Museum, Burns Garden, Karachi on Thursday. The plantation activity was arranged by the Sindh Forest Department in which Chairperson Planning Board Ms Naheed Shah Durani, Senior Member Board of Revenue Shamsudin Soomro, Secretary Schools Qazi Shahid Pervez, Secretary Forest Abdul Rahim Soomro, Secretary Labor Abdul Rasheed Solangi, Secretary Information Akhtar Hussain Bughti and all other provincial secretaries and school students also planted trees at the garden.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Secretary Sindh stated that the plantation campaign in the province was formally inaugurated by Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah, and today’s activity was its part. “Trees are very important for Sindh, and especially Karachi needs tree plantation at large scale to counterbalance the effects of climate change. This is not a mere tree plantation show. This Sindh sarbaz campaign will be a successful tree plantation campaign as all government machinery is involved in it,” said the Chief Secretary Sindh. Shah further stated that with the help of federal government, the Sindh forest department was set to plant one billion trees.

The chief Secretary while replying to a question, stated that there was water shortage in Karachi, but after completion of K-V the water problem would be solved in the metropolitan. “Sindh government has taken stern action against illegal water hydrants. Only wates board water hydrants are operational in Karachi.”

Shah further stated that the water shortage in the city would also be minimized as Hub Dam is now filled with the fresh water. The Chief Secretary argued upon the civil society, media men and educational institutes to join the plantation campaign “Sarsabz Sindh” as the monsoon season is right time to plant a tree.
