Sports: Judo: Pak Judokas perform well in Nepal

Karachi:Pakistani judokas performed well in both male and female events of South Asian Judo Championship, which commenced Saturday in Kathmandu, Nepal. According to information made available here, Humaira Ashiq and Marium qualified for their respective events’ finals.

Meanwhile, in men’s events, Shah Hussain Shah and Qaisar Khan also cruised into the finals of their respective events. A total of 102 judokas – 55 in men’s and 47 in women’s category – from six South Asian nations are taking part in the tournament where there are 64 medals up for grabs. Seven each gold and silver and 14 bronze each in two categories and eight medals in team events.

Judokas are featuring in below-60kg, below-66kg, below-73kg, below-81kg, below-90kg, below-100kg and above-100kg categories in men’s category.

In women’s category, judokas are featuring in below-48kg, below-52kg, below-57kg, below-63kg, below-70kg, below-78kg and above-78kg weight categories.

In team event, Nepal will field two teams, while Pakistan, Bhutan, India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will have one each. The individual events are being played on April 21-22 and the team event will be played on the final day.
