PADIDAN: Thirty-nine illegal Afghan immigrants were arrested on Halani Bypass in Rasoolabad town of Sindh province near Ranipur, police said Monday.
A team of excise police was busy checking goods vehicles on Halani Bypass in Rasoolabad town near Ranipur when a suspected truck was stopped there. On checking the truck, the excise police recovered 39 Afghanis hidden in the compartment of the truck with goods.
They detained them and handed over to the Halani police station following which they were brought to Bhirya City court for legal action. The court after hearing the case sent them on police remand. The police said that the Afghanis were illegally heading to Karachi from Afghanistan.
On 8 September 2021, police had arrested 11 Afghan nationals in Sindh’s Ghokti while travelling without documents. The detainees include three ladies, six kids, and two males. The fall of Kabul to Taliban has witnessed an immense population desperate to flee their country. Recently, people in the form of masses reached Kabul International Airport in the hopes of being evacuated to the border regions conjoining Pakistan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.
However, the Taliban had already taken over the border security to prevent illegal movement. Pakistan, while actively participating in humanitarian activities across the border, has refused to take anymore of Afghan refugees as previously Pakistan had borne the brunt of refugee influx in the form of population gain.
Afghanistan has been in shambles for the longest period in history and the people were compelled to flee their homes and the homeland. The Soviet invasion of 1979, US invasion of 2001 and US evacuation of 2021 has only added to the displacement of Afghans.
