AASP supports 582 govt schools: CS told

KARACHI:We need qualification to enhance the knowledge of our students for preparing them in accordance with the future requirements, said Sindh Chief Secretary Syed Mumtaz Ali Shah while presiding over a meeting to review the status of the schools adopted by the philanthropists and social organizations in Sindh.

Managing Director Sindh Education Foundation (SEF) Ms Naheed Shah Durrani delivered a presentation about the SEF performance.

The meeting decided to constitute a six-member committee for monitoring and resolving the issues facing 102 adopted schools. The committee, headed by the Sindh Chief Secretary, would comprise Secretary School Education, MD SEF, and three other members from other departments after approval from the Sindh Chief Minister.

Under Adopt a school programme (AASP), the significant progress has been possible qualitatively and quantitatively since 1998. The meeting was told that the AASP now supports 582 government schools with the help of 102 school adopters in 13 districts of Sindh, benefiting 13,100 children and over 5000 teachers that reflects growing interest and indication of the civil society and the private sector in the revival of public sector education.

Meanwhile, the Sindh chief secretary also presided over another meeting which reviewed IT initiatives for computerizing the records of various departments including the departments of school education, information EandE, health and woks and services.
