BAP leader elected Balochistan CM

QUETTA: Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) President Jam Mir Kamal Khan Alyani was elected as Balochistan Chief Minister on Saturday.

The election was held through secret ballot in which Kamal secured 39 votes against his rival candidate Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) MPA Mir Younus Aziz Zehri who received 20 votes.

Kamal was supported by Awami National Party, Hazara Democratic Party, Jamhoori Watan Party, Balochistan National Party-Awami and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf. The session was presided over by Speaker Abdul Quddus Bizenjo.

The new chief minister will take oath of his office at Governor House in Quetta on Sunday.

On Thursday, BAP MPA and former provincial chief minister Abdul Quddus Bizenjo was elected Speaker Balochistan Assembly with 39 votes against his rival candidate Mohammad Nawaz Khan who got 20 votes. Khan was a joint candidate of the opposition parties – Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M) and Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA).

However, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate Babar Musakhel was elected as Deputy Speaker with 38 votes against BNP-M and MMA joint candidate Ahmad Nawaz who secured 21 votes.
