Casualties feared in Iran port town blast

Tehran:A suicide attacker exploded his explosives-laden car at Chabahar sea port in Iran’s Sistan Balochistan province on Thursday, causing multiple casualties, media reports said.

The Iranian media reported the attack took place on a police post at Chabahar Port around 10am Thursday, when an explosives-laden car was crashed into a police post.

Private news agency in Iran, Tasnim, quoting local officials as saying that many people suffered casualties in the blast.

Chabahar police chief Rahmdel Barmi said the attack involved a suicide bomber whose target was a police center. He said two people were killed and scores of others wounded in the incident.

The attacker wanted to enter the police center but he exploded his explosives after being stopped by police, he said.

Some unconfirmed reports say around five people were killed and 27 others wounded in the incident.

Chabahar is a major Iranian commercial port where India has recently invested millions of US dollars to facilitate trade with Afghanistan.
