Cataract Eye Surgery Camp inaugurated at PEBS

KARACHI: Acting Consul General of Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Karachi, Mr Chen Xiaodong on Wednesday stressed the need of enchaining coordination between the people of China and Pakistan in every sector particularly in the fields of medicine.

Speaking to the formal opening ceremony of free Cataract Eye Surgery Camp at Pakistan Eye Bank Society (PEBS) Hospital, North Karachi. He said Pakistan and China are good friends and people to people coordination needed to further improve bilateral relation between two countries in future.

He said 500 free Cataract Surgeries would be performed by the Chinese Ophthalmologists led by Prof Mr Li Zhaohui during this eye camp. This is in pursuance of Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) and Chinese Medical Association (CMA) collaboration through the MOU signed between the two organizations to strengthen Pak- China medical corridor.

Chairman, Sindh Healthcare Commission, Prof S. Tipu Sultan said Chinese are good friend of Pakistan as they transforming their skills and technology with our country. He said free cataract eye camps would be held in other parts of Sindh province in future.

Medical Director Pakistan Eye Bank Society, Hospital, Dr Qazi Wasiq, informed that under ‘Bright Journey Pakistan’ project, 500 eye operations would be carried out by nine-member Chinese ophthalmologists and support staff from January 09 to January 19, 2018.

He said this is a first ever such activity as a gesture of goodwill and to promote friendly relations between the two countries. He hoped that similar activities will follow in other fields of medicine throughout Pakistan.

He informed that cataract eye surgery camp was organized with support of International Health Exchange Cooperation Centre (IHECC) China and IHECC bearing all expenses in organizing camp as a gift to the poor & needy patients of Pakistan from China.

Secretary General, Pakistan Medical Association (Centre), Dr SM Qaisar Sajjad, Ex-Secretary General PMA, Mirza Ali Azhar, Coordinator IHECC Team Ms Guloei and others were also present on this occasion.
