Karachi: Pasban e Pakistan here Friday staged a demo to protest against depriving the megacity, Karachi, from its due share of national and provincial resources.
A large number of people participated in the demo staged at UP More, New Karachi, who raised slogans for giving the citizens of the megacity their due rights.
Pasban Karachi chapter president Abdul Hakim Quaid said regretfully the concept of megacities is not covered in the constitution of Pakistan; hence our megacities, especially Karachi, are not getting urban development of the level they duly deserve.
He said the Karachiites demand development of their megacity on modern lines to make it an urban center of international level. He said this would be only possible when our political parties agree on a constitutional amendment to include the concept of megacities in our constitution.
He said we go ashamed when we visit other megacities of the world and see their development. He said Karachi is even far behind in urban lift if compared to Lahore. He asked the rulers to stop step-motherly treatment of Karachi and allocate ample budget and special packages for it in the coming budget.
