Doctors give 5-day ultimatum to Sindh Govt

KARACHI: Doctor’s Joint Action Committee Sindh on Thursday gave a five-day ultimatum to Sindh government to accept the demands of medical practitioners; otherwise, a complete strike would be observed across the province.

Addressing a joint press conference at Karachi Press Club, the representatives of Pakistan Medical Association (PMA), Sindh, Sindh Doctors Ittehad, Functional Doctors Forum and Young Doctors Association, Sindh, said the Sindh government has failed to implement the apex court orders about doctors’ promotions. They said it is reluctant to give service structure & time-scale promotions, rise of salaries & allowance on pattern of three other provinces.

Central leader of Doctor’s Joint Action Committee, Dr Muhammad Usman Maako, said doctors observed hunger strike outside Karachi Press Club for promotion of doctors and held protest demonstration in different cities of Sindh province from February 14, 2018.

He said unfortunately Sindh government and Sindh health department officials showed apathy toward doctors’ demands.

Another leader of Doctors Action Committee, Dr Omer Sultan said house officers and Postgraduate (PGs) doctors are underpaid in Sindh province as compared to Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Baluchistan’s doctors.

He said doctors of Sindh have decided to go on protest as the authorities concerned of Sindh health department are not interested to resolve problem being faced by them.

They demanded of the Sindh government to immediately promote the doctors in next grades, give them service structure and time-scale promotions, increase salaries & allowance of young doctors, regularize the contract doctors and provide deputation facility to medical practitioners of the province.

They give a five-day ultimatum to the Sindh government to accept these demands; otherwise, a complete strike will be observed across the province and doctors will hold a big protest outside the Karachi Press Club.
