Fighting thalassaemia responsibility of society: Reema Khan

KARACHI: Actress and Director Reema Khan has said that fighting thalassaemia is the responsibility of whole society and media should launch an effective countrywide campaign to create awareness among masses about prevention of this disease.

She was speaking to media during her visit to Thalassaemia Care Centre of Help International Welfare Trust (HIWT) here.

She said citizens should go through the complete medical test and people with disease or its family history should be screened completely. We have to propagate and start a nationwide awareness campaign against thalassaemia and its effects, she added.

Reema lauded the efforts of Help International Welfare Trust (HIWT) and its contribution towards helping and providing most needed medical care to the thalassaemia patients. “We have to follow the footstep of an institute like HIWT as a great example.”

She said that print and electronic media should start an effective awareness campaign among masses about the disease of thalassemia across the country.

During her visit to thalassaemia Care Centre, Reema Khan mingled with child patients, answered their queries and snapped selfies with them.

On the occasion, her spouse Dr Tariq Shahab said the government should open special thalassaemia wards in every hospital so that the patients mostly children would be given proper care without any financial charges.
