KARACHI:The four major departments of Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) are operating without permanent Head of Department (HoD) and in-charge since several months.
The major departments of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) run hospital known as ASH, are functioning sans permanent heads including cardiology, urology, neurology and accident and emergency since several months due to shortage of faculty. No new professor was hired to fill vacant posts after retirement HoDs since last eight to nine years.
Sources at ASH told PPI that four important departments are being run without HoDs since several months while six to seven department’ heads are going to retire soon from their posts.
The shortage of faculty members may affect performance of this teaching hospital if recruitment of assistant professors and professors could not be initiated soon.
Approximately 650 posts are already lying vacant in this KMC ’ s largest tertiary care institution, including that doctors, nurses, paramedical staff and other administrative staff, which has badly disturbed functioning of this health facility .
About 90 posts of Resident Medical Officers and Consultants, 75 posts of staff nurses, 100 posts of sweepers, 100 posts of security guards, many posts of technicians, paramedical staff and others administrative seats are lying vacant in this teaching hospital since several years.
The shortage of doctors, nurses, paramedical staff and administrative staff, has badly affected the functioning of this hospital.
Senior Director Medical and Health Survives, KMC, Dr Birbal Genani, while talking PPI, said several requests have already to sent Sindh government to allow KMC for hiring of professors, assistant professors, general doctors, nurses, paramedical and support staff to fill vacant posts but any attention was paid on this issue in this issue yet.
