Growers protest against water scarcity in Larkana

LARKANA:Growers of village Masti Khan Jatak of Warah taluka, Khuhro Khan Jamali and Ali Murad Jatoi villages held separate protest demonstrations in front of local press club Monday against acute water scarcity in their respective areas.

Khadim Hussain Jatak and others told newsmen that there was no irrigation water in Panhwar Shakh of Warah since past three months due to which hundreds of acres of agricultural land of the area was drying and it was feared if water was not released soon then these lands would become arid.

They said paddy saplings sown on the lands of Himath Khan Chandio, Anwar Chandio, Razi Chandio, Ali Hyder Chandio, Jamaluddin Chandio, Hote Khan Chandio, Roshan Chandio, Muzamil Arain and others were burning due to acute water shortage due to sheer negligence and corruption of irrigation department engineers. They said so many times complaints have been lodged with relevant department officials but without any result so far.

The villagers of Khuhro Khan Jamali and Ali Murad Jatoi including Javed Jamali, Mir Jamali, Mansoor Jamali, Niaz Jamali and others complained that they have not seen any water in Heera Wah of Mahotta Regulator since May due to which paddy saplings are not only drying but burning now which were sown for hundreds of acres.

They said they came here to have a meeting with the chief engineer but after waiting for over two hours they were asked to go home. They said that they have made several complaints to concerned irrigation department engineers but it seems that they have closed their eyes and ears as nothing has yet been done.

Both the protesting people urged Sindh Chief Minister, Irrigation Minister and other high government officers to take immediate notice of the issue and resolve the problem faced by the growers before it is too late, because, they added, their families will suffer very seriously if water is not released in the drains immediately.
